I was sat playing Destiny last night, and I realised that without even really concentrating I was putting together my fave comic book films. Here are my top 5!
5. Sin City.
Sin City was always going to be a difficult thing to transfer from book to film due to it’s graphical style. Thankfully for us, Sin City was faithfully re-created under the direction of Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez (Incidentally, I’m not sure Rob has directed anything as good since this!)
4. Guardians Of The Galaxy.
I knew this was going to be good from the moment it was announced. I think it just has ‘sure thing’ written all over it. Characters that shouldn’t be with each other, brilliantly funny dialogue, and a great setting. Then, they cast it and I don’t think they could have done a better job. Great film.
3. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.
I don’t think this would have been as good had it not been handed to Edgar Wright. It needed someone who understood the source material and that was clearly a comic book fan. It’s a shame that he got removed from the Ant Man film, even though it ended up being great, I always wonder what could have been!
2. Spider-Man 2.
That’s right! The second outing for Tobey Maguire as our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. Don’t confuse this with The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we’re talking about the 2004 film. Sam Raimi essentially made comic book film perfection, if for nothing other than the train scene. I don’t think any other film has captured the joy of comic books in such an amazing way.
1. Road To Perdition.
One of my fave films in it’s own right. It had amazing source material to work with and was cast brilliantly. Hanks is amazing as Michael Sullivan and the film really captures the feel of the books. Amazing stuff.
