2017 Top 40, Part 2.

on

30:

Snoop Doggy Dogg – Gz & Hustlas. (314 Plays, Down 4 places since last year.)

The first time I heard Doggystyle I would have been about 12 or 13 years old. It was incredible. I instantly fell in love with it. Firstly, lots of swear words, always a fan. Secondly, his lyrics are just crazy good on that album. As soon as I heard this track I knew it was my fave one, and would continue to be my fave one for quite some time to come. He’s never topped it in my opinion.

29:

Shakespeare’s Sister – Stay. (319 Plays, Down 6 places since last year.)

It’s just ace. I’ve written about this song a lot in the past and can’t really be bothered doing it again. I think it was this song last year or the year before where I went off on one about The Karate Kid or something. Trying to avoid that sort of shit this year in case you hadn’t noticed. Marcella Detroit’s vocals are a fuckton of shithottedness. That’s all you’re getting out of me. lol.

28:

The Antlers – Kettering. (320 Plays, New Entry.)

Oh man, this song. I don’t really know what to write about it. I think it’s incredible. It’s beautifully put together and the lyrics are backed up by the music so fucking well. Definitely one of the songs that makes me easily cry. I’ve always paired with with Hope There’s Someone by Antony and The Johnsons, not just because of the same kinda tone, but also structurally.

27:

Ylvis – Yoghurt. (342 Plays, New Entry.)

It’s so amazing, yes this thing is gonna blow your mind, it is the sweetest, softest, purest thing you’ll ever find. You think you’ve tried it, but remember – it’s a special kind. It’s not yoghurt, it’s Djoghurt! I think what I love about Ylvis, and I do LOVE Ylvis, is the standard of the songs. They’re always very funny, but they’re also incredible well written. There are more Ylvis songs just outside the top 40.

26:

Sharon Van Etten – Every Time The Sun Comes Up. (347 Plays, New Entry.)

Sharon Van Etten is very good and you’ve never heard of her. Sort your life out. x

25:

Birdy – Wild Horses. (351 Plays, Down 7 places since last year.)

Sharon Van Etten followed by Jasmine Lucilla Elizabeth Jennifer van den Bogaerde. Interesting. Birdy. I like her and stuff.

24:

Hozier – Arsonist’s Lullaby. (360 Plays, New Entry.)

I chose someone’s fan made video to go with this because it’s a decent representation of what plays in my head when I hear this song. It’s very good, and his voice is, as always, top notch! I thought that when I started this chart, my desire to write things had come back. I don’t think it has. I’m struggling to write more than one line about a lot of these songs. What’s happened to me.

23:

Jimmy Eat World – The Middle. (373 Plays, Up 5 places since last year.)

22:

Rihanna – Diamonds. (374 Plays, New Entry)

21:

Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl. (377 Plays, New Entry.)
